An introduction to Helmsley for Market and Walled Garden
Helmsley is a peaceful market town with a timeless appeal and best known for its beautiful riverside walks, traditional tea rooms and genteel country pubs. Situated on the River Rye Helmsley's skyline is dominated by its 12th century castle ruins.
Helmsley Market Place
Helmsley has a reasonably large market place complete with a statue of Lord Feversham in the centre. This is not the current Lord Feversham, but one of his ancestors. Helmsley still holds a market day every Friday
Entrance to Helmsley Walled Garden is included
Helmsley Walled Garden sits directly at the foot of Helmsley castle and is a popular visitor attraction. Helmsley Walled Garden was originally built in 1756 and still contains some (restored) glass houses from the 1800s. The garden was restored back to its original Victorian beauty and productivity in 1994 after being abandoned and falling into dereliction. Helmsley Walled Garden has both a gift shop and cafe on-site. Furthermore the cafe uses produce harvested from within the gardens where possible
