Southport pier

Looking for some seaside fun mixed with a drop of adventure? Southport may be the exact destination you’re looking for! Southport is a traditional seaside town but with a modern twist - the town is full of attractions, bars and restaurants to check out alongside an abundance of historic Victorian architecture to marvel at, making a visit the perfect combination of British seaside nostalgia and adventurous activities. Bullocks run several coach trips to Southport throughout the year for good reason, so read the top things to do in the intriguing town and jump on one of our coaches to Southport before they fill up!

Visit an independent restaurant

The food and drink scene in Southport has flourished in recent years, with the Southport Restaurateurs Association running for the past 15 years to promote local independent restaurants in and around Southport. Finding a restaurant within the association guarantees that the food you are served has at least 70% locally sourced ingredients, and additionally is produced freshly at the establishment. The initiatives run by the association make Southport a real hotspot for world cuisine, with an immense amount of restaurants to choose from, all providing personal touches you won’t find in chain restaurants. Some of our favourites are Auberge Brasserie (French/English), Gusto Trattoria (Italian) and The Hungry Monk (English/Everything). Of course, you can just grab some tasty fish and chips on the coastline if that’s more your vibe!

Hire a bike and cycle the town

Whether you have just a spare hour or more of the day, cycling around Southport is a fantastic way of taking the beautiful town in. Southport is known for its well-maintained cycle routes that allow you to cruise along the coastline and around the main sights with ease and as the town is mostly flat, it makes cycling around it with all the family very simple, taking in fresh air and promoting exercise to your little ones along the way! Different sceneries await you once you step off the coach and onto a bike, including woodlands, sand dunes and coastline and there are many bike hire companies in the town, meaning you’ll never be short of options.

Enjoy a peaceful visit to the botanic gardens

Open since the late 1800s, Southport’s Victorian gardens are a sea of beautiful colours and flower displays, perfect for a tranquil wander with loved ones. The gardens are home to a lovely cafe, play area, bowls green, gift shop and even an aviary, making a trip to this special place that little bit more exciting for nature lovers and enthusiasts. The gardens host an array of events all year round so be sure to check these out for when you plan your Southport coach trip with Bullocks, as you won’t want to miss something exciting! As well as the botanic gardens, a visit to the plant room or Four Seasons garden centre should be on your list if you have time!

Stroll along the Iron Pier

Ask anyone things to do in Southport, and this will most definitely pop up. Similarly to the botanic gardens, the Iron Pier in Southport has been open since the late 1800s, and is the longest iron pier in the country. The pier is a wonderful place to catch the sunset, so maybe the perfect place to enjoy an ice cream at the end of your day. The pier’s pavilion is full of arcade games and slot machines, and has even been the subject of an extensive refurbishment so no better time to visit it than 2024! The pier is grade ii listed, meaning you’ll be stepping on a stunning piece of history when you take a stroll along it, perfect for a picturesque photo with all the family before you jump on a Bullocks coach to head home.

For more fun things in Southport, you can head to the Visit Southport website to further plan your day trip to Southport with Bullocks. We’re heading to Southport on the 30th of March and 18th of August so book on today to avoid disappointment.
