With spring on its way, alongside slightly longer, brighter days, life seems to be a little more…pleasant. Maybe it’s time to treat your hard-working students to a school trip. They’ve had to put up with wet English weather for the last few months, it’s the least they deserve!
We can’t guarantee it’s going to stop raining, but we can suggest some exciting school trip destinations in the North that will make days at least seem a little sunnier.
Durham - Durham is an excellent school trip destination with its historic Durham Cathedral and Castle, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offering educational programs. Students can explore mediaeval architecture and learn about past societies. Beyond history, Durham provides cultural experiences and beautiful natural surroundings along the River Wear, making it relevant for various subjects like history, art, and geography.
Leeds - Leeds is a great place for a school trip because it has interesting museums like the Royal Armouries and Thackray Medical Museum, which teach history and science in a fun way. Students can also enjoy cultural activities like watching performances at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Plus, being in Yorkshire, it's easy to explore nature in places like the Yorkshire Dales. Overall, Leeds offers a mix of learning and fun experiences for students.
Sheffield - Widely known as the ‘Steel City’, Sheffield is a perfect place for a school trip due to its rich, industrial history and encapsulating collection of museums. The well-known Weston Park Museum explores the history of the city all the way back to prehistoric times, involving ancient artefacts and zoological wonders to tell the story of how the city came to be what it is today. If you’ve ticked off the museums previously, a trip to one of the many nature reserves in the area might be more suitable, especially once spring has sprung! You could even walk an alpaca at Holly Hagg!
